We have just started a brand new competition today, our 3 tee giveaway and already it is going well with quite a few entries received..but, the entries received got me thinking...How powerful are the compers?
Since starting this ladies t-shirt business I've become interested in social media and the likes and am really astounded at the speed with which "compers" can spread a message of a competition via facebook and twitter (heck, sure I tweet with lots of you regularly now, tis great hehe)..So, I was thinking, how about a challenge for you all?
The 3 tee giveaway is going to run for 3 weeks, until the 14th of October and I'm curious to see how many entries can be received..I would love if you (everyone who reads this) could take a moment to share the competition page (http://www.ladyumbrella.com/3teegiveaway.php) on any competition or giveaway site/forum you may be active on and then leave a comment below with a link to where you posted it...may very well be a bonus prize in it for someone :)
Would love if some (or all) of you could get on board and help us spread the word of this competition...How many entries do you think are possible?
P.S. Sharing is caring! Our IT boffins have have got a new Facebook "like" button and Twitter ReTweet button on the top of all our blog posts..Give them a click and make us smile!

I think contests are a huge way to market your products. I only learned about you from a contest. I didn't win but fell so in love with your designs that I bought one. I was pleasantly surprised to see how wonderfully it fit and hugged my body in all the right places.
I also think that having contests opens up so many new avenues to sell your wares. Even if you advertised in Ireland - we'd never see it here. But now you have a huge following in the US.
Posted you on Moneysavingexpert forum, in the comps section

Thanks Debbie...and ye, completely agree, we've come across a lot of great people (and customers) thanks to competitions and in a way, just like the people taking part, I also get a little kick when I see how many people have entered..Thats why with this contest I'm hoping for a very big kick and am really curious to see how many entries are possible...
Also about being heard of outside of Ireland is very true..In fact I think we are more well known outside of Ireland than in Ireland as we're mad active on facebook/twitter but facebook/twitter still hasn't reached fever pitch here like it has abroad which results in over half of our sales going over seas..
I'm going to put out a number and aim for 500 entries in total...am I nuts, too high or way to low?
THANK YOU SHELL!! Big big time appreciated, lets see what can happen...ole..
Fabulous idea! We always say compers are great for PR ;O) I'll tweet for you and post on my blog FB page and my personal page. I'll be back with links, as I've just got to get the children in bed.
I think using giveaways and social media are THE ways to market a product nowadays... particularly Twitter. With the power of an RT you can get you point across to so many in no time at all. Which is why I think it's so popular.
Big ole!
I think that competitions on Twitter and the like are a great way to advertise. I'm a comper and I enter lots that people tweet about or post on forums about. Whilst the reason that we first visit any given site is because of the prize that is on offer, us compers are all people with a life outside of comps too and when visiting sites for a competition, we might stop and have a mooch around if the goods look interesting and therefore turn into a customer. I find it surprising that some sites have competitions such as on Twitter and then get annoyed that they suddenly have lots of new followers, who have only followed them to enter the competition Didn't it occur to them that this might happen?
Good luck with this little venture. If you are guessing how many entries you will get - well, I think that depends on how you count your entry. For example, on Twitter, if each retweet counts as one entry, then you will probably get ten times as many as if each Tweeter counts as one, since some people will tweet the same competition every day or even several times a day. On the basis of one entry per person, I guess 300 entries. I will be interested to see the outcome. Do let us know.
I have tweeted @Pumpkin2k9
@Pumpkin2k9 Firstly thanks for taking the time to leave such a lengthy comment and ye, I totally agree with you "compers are people too" hehe..I embrace the comping tidal wave of traffic/comments etc whenever it occurs as like you said some people may become customers at some stage (and some have already - ole)...
I won't be counting retweets as entries as if that were the case the number would be insane..Valid entries are comments on the facebook page. Have about 50 or so now I think..People can enter into each draw so can enter 3 times...
I will most definitely keep you up to date and let you know how many people enter..
And yes, Tracy, you are great PR hehe..I also agree that giveaways are the way to go (hence we've had a few of them)..It's way to pricey to go the tv/radio ads route and it's not nearly as personable or enjoyable...If we were to have a TV ad this little convo would never happen..viva twitter/facebook/social media :) Can't wait to see you rlinks, hope they sleep and are well behaved for you hehe...Ole..
I like it - the compers challenge! :-D
I can't actually access your Facebook page right now, as Facebook has conked out! - but it looks like your competition actually takes a bit of effort, which I always like to see. This in turn will reduce the number of entrants though - a lot of compers like to rattle through their entries superfast so don't like the comps where they have to stop and think! (not me, I love to put the effort in!)
Anyway, I'm including you in my weekly blog comp round up over at http://super-lucky.blogspot.com/ tomorrow so hopefully you'll get some new visitors from that link!
Everyone likes a challenge hehe...And wow "30 holidays, a car and over £25K in cash" that is a nice haul, hehe, makes a t-shirt look miniscule ;) Ye, facebook is down here as well now but seems to be lurching back to life..hopefully will be up and running again soon so the entires can pour in hehe..
Agree with what you are saying about making comps easy to enter..Sometimes we just ask for favourite design and have gotten over 300 entries or something wild..Will be interesting to see how much the "three words beginning with T" impacts entries - too tough to enter perhaps?
Big time thanks for including us in your blog post for tomorrow..Lets open the flood gates hehe :) I'm going to stick with my 500 entries estimate and continue to dream...ole..
Did try to post comp on MSE but was beaten to it (boo Hoo) :( , until I joined a forum I never realised there were so many comps out there in cyber land, and must admit I now know a lot of companies and go back and order from them, without a comp forum I would probably have never came across them. Forums help you get traffic through a site, and some of those will most certainly come back ond order.

@freefan1 thanks for trying MSE - sweet that we're already listed on it...Ye, I had no idea about the amount of comps either in cyber land until, well, I started running them hehe...to be honest, almost getting the bug as well, might have to join up sometime hehe...
Thanks for the help thus far..feel free to share this post with any of your fellow compers who might be interested :) 500 entries here we go..

Thanks Tracy - happy to run them, really do enjoy them as well, your help is most appreciated...as is yours Dee, thanks for sharing it...ole - 500 entries dream is possible...I'll have a running total for you real soon...
I shop online a LOT - and almost alwaysat sites I first visited because of a competition. Knowing a site is generous enough to give things away gives you a good feeling about them.
I will be including the comp in the October issue of "Grape Vine" magazine for compers. Good luck with running the comp - I hope it brings you not just loads of entries, but loads of new business too.
Thanks for including us Grapevine - really appreciate the help...And I agree completely, we've had a few sales from compers in the past which undoubtedly resulted in them hearing about us via a competition - hopefully this one will do something similar :)
And, I promised a running total with my last comment so here it is..Thus far we have had 147 entries which is ok in 4.5 days I think...Sticking with my lofty target of 500, you all are helping make it happen - ole..
I have posted the comp on Compers news, which is a closed site. I have found lots of sites through comping, I hope this attracts more customers for you!
(@LuckyThing13)
I LOVE contests. I will tweet and retweet your contest. The one thing that I relized about twitter is lot of people will not enter including myself if it gets to complicated such as having multiple steps to enter. First tweet, then FB, then blog etc. It gets too complicated and when Im at work (tweeting) i cannot access certain sites so I cant complete the entries. Simple contests are my choice and probably alot of folks too. Good luck !! @kellyrella691
oh I'm really glad I found your t-shirts and competition. I love them. And I can't believe you are in Dublin. I can visit :) I'm going to blog about your competition on my blog too. Hope that will help :)
Hey Cassieopea - thank you, always wanted to be on a closed site hehe - ole :)
I agree Kelly, the easier the competition is the better the response rate seems to be...Keeping them short and sweet to enter seems to be key alright...
Hey Robyn, thanks for finding us hehe - yep based in Dublin...if ever you are in town on a weekend swing by the Loft in Powerscourt Shopping Centre, be great to meet you...And, would big time appreciate if you could share it on your blog, really helps us get the word out...And good luck to you in the draw :)
